Challenge:
Northern New Jersey is ripe for cast iron boiler replacements. The challenge in New Jersey is conducting the retrofits fast enough to keep pace with demand.
Central Comfort, a do-it-all mechanical firm in Dover, NJ, has perfected the process. Owner Willy Faust has been installing U.S. Boiler Company cast iron boilers for 35 years. His son Chris has been at it for a long time, too.
After a neighborhood in Rockway Township encouraged its residents to convert to gas heating, the owner of a 3,2000 square-foot home/daycare contacted Central Comfort to complete an oil-to-gas retrofit.
Solution:
“Central Comfort was able to take on my job within days of the gas line being completed,” said homeowner George Falcone. “It was perfect timing because my oil tank only had a few drops left, and I didn’t want to order another 100 gallons.”
The 1950’s house had five zones. Willy and Chris worked in the basement mechanical room to pull out the existing oil boiler and install a three-section ES2 boiler made by U.S. Boiler Company.
All in, the retrofit took a day.
Result:
“I was happy to learn that Central Comfort was able to complete the project in a single day,” said Falcone. “They were extremely professional, and it’s a relief to have it done. We’re excited to see the energy savings over the winter, but right now we’re amazed by how much quieter the new boiler is!”
“Depending on the age of the existing oil equipment, when we do an oil-to-gas boiler swap like this with an ES2, the homeowner tends to save between 40 and 75 percent on their heating costs,” said Chris.
